The Wolf of the North Now Out!

I’m happy to announce that The Wolf of the North is now out. It’s taken a lot longer to get here than I’d intended, and I apologise for the delay, but we’re finally there, and I think the end result has been worth the additional time and effort that went into it.

the-wolf-of-the-north-ebook-smallThe Wolf of the North is the first book of a new heroic fantasy trilogy set in the same Middle Sea world as my other books. Here’s what it’s about:

It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be.

A chance encounter with an ancient and mysterious object awakens a latent gift, and Wulfric’s life changes course. Against a backdrop of war, tragedy, and an enemy whose hatred for him knows no bounds, Wulfric will be forged from a young boy, into the Wolf of the North. This is his tale.

Wolf of the North Map Reveal

First off, as you may or may not have known, The Wolf of the North will be available to buy on 12 October (next Wednesday). It’s taken a bit longer to get to this point than I had planned, but hopefully it will be worth the wait! There’ll be a couple more updates here, including an excerpt, between now and then.

I had a map made for The Wolf of the North, by Robert Altbauer, who also did the Ostenheim city map that you can find here. You can see more of his work over at fantasy-map.net. The map will also be in the release editions of the book, but I wanted to share it here because I love looking at it!

Pinterest updates…

I’ve had a chance to do a little organising over on Pinterest, and have put some photos of buildings and cities into their appropriate categories, if anyone is curious as to what place inspired which city!

If you reckon you can connect any of the buildings to the ones they inspired in the book, feel free to drop me a mail and I’ll confirm if you’re right!

Overdue update!

Ok, long past time for an update, so here we go. I’d hoped to have more concrete news and more interesting posts coming up at this point, but things haven’t gone as quickly as I’d hoped. As you may already know, my next trilogy is called ‘The Wolf of the North’. My plan for this was to have the entire trilogy written before I released the first part. Right now I have a completed first draft of the second part, and am about 2/3 of the way through the final part, which is progressing at a good pace now.

The first part has been through some rounds of editing, but has a bit farther to go before it’s ready. I am hoping to release this summer, but I can’t be any more specific than that right now.

I hope everyone is well!

Updates…

Ok, time for some very long overdue updates!

Right now I’m working my way through developmental edits for the first part of my next trilogy, The Wolf of the North. It’s set in the same world as The Tattered Banner and the Society of the Sword trilogy, but moves the central location, and takes a look at some concepts that will be familiar to those that have read my earlier books from a different cultural perspective. As always, it’s been a lot of fun to breathe some life into a hitherto untouched part of the Middle Sea world.

I’m afraid I don’t have an ETA for its release yet, but I’ll be sure to keep you all updated!

I hope everyone is having a warmer and sunnier summer than I am (although that wouldn’t be difficult!)

The First Blade of Ostia now available!

I’m happy to announce that The First Blade of Ostia went on sale last Friday. To be notified as soon as I release a new book, you can sign up for my New Release Newsletter.

The First Blade of Ostia is set a little more than a decade before The Tattered Banner, so you’ll see some familiar faces (albeit younger!) and some new and interesting ones also. It follows a young man called Bryn as he embarks on a duelling career after graduating from Ostenheim’s Academy. He’s accompanied on this path by his best friend, a young aristocrat named Amero…

Writing this book gave me the opportunity to explore the role dueling plays in Ostian society, something I’ve been eager to do ever since first developing the world for The Tattered Banner. It was a lot of fun to write, so I really hope you enjoy the story!
You can pick up a copy from the following vendors. iBooks and Barnes & Noble will follow shortly, and the paperback should be available soon after.

The First Blade of Ostia

Well, that’s the title reveal for my next book taken care of! Set about 12 years before The Tattered Banner, The First Blade of Ostia is a stand alone novel set in the highly competitive world of Ostenheim’s professional duelling circuit. Those who have read the Society of the Sword trilogy will recognise a few of the characters involved, who are joined by a few new—and I hope—interesting individuals. I hate committing to firm release dates before I have everything ready to go, but all things being well, it will be available before Christmas!

Stay tuned for the back cover copy, which I’ll post here in the next few days. Cover reveal and excerpts will hopefully follow shortly afterward!

In other news, I was delighted to see that Maureen O’Hara, the female lead in many of my favourite swashbuckling movies (The Black Swan, The Spanish Main, Against All Flags—anyone remember this series of posts?) has finally been awarded an Oscar!

I hope everyone is well!
