It’s been a busy start to the year for me, and I’m glad to say everything is still on track for an April release for the second part of the Wolf of the North Trilogy, titled Jorundyr’s Path.
There’ll be more updates coming over the next couple of weeks as we get closer to release, so be sure to check in from time to time. Until then, we’ve worked up a little teaser trailer to whet your appetite, so I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve been meaning to put up a Christmas post for a little while now, but have had the flu and haven’t gotten around to much of anything that I’d intended to do (including some Christmas shopping!).
First off, as I’m getting asked a lot, book 2 of Wolf of the North is on target for an April 2017 release. As always, the best way to keep informed is to sign up to my mailing list, which you can do here: http://duncanmhamilton.com/join-my-mailing-list/
Anyway, I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas (and a happy New Year, if I don’t get around to posting again before then!)! I also want to thank you all for your support over the year – without you guys, there would be no books! Words can’t express how much I appreciate you all taking a chance on my work.
I couldn’t find any good videos or images this year to inspire some Christmas cheer, so I am unashamedly recycling this one from last year! I hope you like it (again!).
I’m happy to announce that The Wolf of the North is now out. It’s taken a lot longer to get here than I’d intended, and I apologise for the delay, but we’re finally there, and I think the end result has been worth the additional time and effort that went into it.
The Wolf of the North is the first book of a new heroic fantasy trilogy set in the same Middle Sea world as my other books. Here’s what it’s about:
It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be.
A chance encounter with an ancient and mysterious object awakens a latent gift, and Wulfric’s life changes course. Against a backdrop of war, tragedy, and an enemy whose hatred for him knows no bounds, Wulfric will be forged from a young boy, into the Wolf of the North. This is his tale.

First off, as you may or may not have known, The Wolf of the North will be available to buy on 12 October (next Wednesday). It’s taken a bit longer to get to this point than I had planned, but hopefully it will be worth the wait! There’ll be a couple more updates here, including an excerpt, between now and then.
I had a map made for The Wolf of the North, by Robert Altbauer, who also did the Ostenheim city map that you can find here. You can see more of his work over at fantasy-map.net. The map will also be in the release editions of the book, but I wanted to share it here because I love looking at it!
With release date for The Wolf of the North rapidly approaching, it’s long past time for the cover reveal! There will be more updates over the next few days, so stay tuned. I hope you all like the cover – I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out!
I’ve had a chance to do a little organising over on Pinterest, and have put some photos of buildings and cities into their appropriate categories, if anyone is curious as to what place inspired which city!
If you reckon you can connect any of the buildings to the ones they inspired in the book, feel free to drop me a mail and I’ll confirm if you’re right!

Ok, I had an email recently reminding me about the Ostenheim City Guide that I was planning to do a while back. I have to admit, with all the work that's been going into getting the entire Wolf of the North trilogy put together, I completely forgot about it! I've dug out the old file, and instead of putting it up as a complete booklet - at least initially - I'm going to post instalments of it here on the blog. I'll be getting on to that over the next week or so.
In other news, the first part of The Wolf of the North trilogy will be going off for line edit shortly, as soon as I've made a few slight changes, so things are well on track with that.
Ok, long past time for an update, so here we go. I’d hoped to have more concrete news and more interesting posts coming up at this point, but things haven’t gone as quickly as I’d hoped. As you may already know, my next trilogy is called ‘The Wolf of the North’. My plan for this was to have the entire trilogy written before I released the first part. Right now I have a completed first draft of the second part, and am about 2/3 of the way through the final part, which is progressing at a good pace now.
The first part has been through some rounds of editing, but has a bit farther to go before it’s ready. I am hoping to release this summer, but I can’t be any more specific than that right now.
Right now I’m working my way through developmental edits for the first part of my next trilogy, The Wolf of the North. It’s set in the same world as The Tattered Banner and the Society of the Sword trilogy, but moves the central location, and takes a look at some concepts that will be familiar to those that have read my earlier books from a different cultural perspective. As always, it’s been a lot of fun to breathe some life into a hitherto untouched part of the Middle Sea world.
I’m afraid I don’t have an ETA for its release yet, but I’ll be sure to keep you all updated!
I hope everyone is having a warmer and sunnier summer than I am (although that wouldn’t be difficult!)
